What is a slave of righteousness?

Quick Answer: What is a slave of righteousness? When we believe in Jesus, we become slaves of righteousness (Romans 6:18). This means we are connected to Christ and partake of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4). In short, we are allergic to sin and addicted to Jesus (Romans 6:11). God has the market cornered on fulfillment, and only bearing the fruit of His Spirit will satisfy us now.

Diving Deeper: When we were born into this world, we were born spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1; Colossians 2:13). This means that, at the core of our beings, we were enslaved to sin. We were under its dominion and compatible with its desires. We were allergic to God’s way of doing things.

After we believed in Jesus, however, we were set free from sin’s power and made slaves of righteousness (Romans 6:18; Colossians 2:13). This means we became addicted to righteousness and allergic to sin. At the core of our beings, we were made partakers of God’s divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4). We became obedient from the heart (Romans 6:17), and we were given an undying love for Jesus (Ephesians 6:24).

This is what it means to be a “slave” of righteousness. It doesn’t mean God is forcing you to live a certain way. It means God has empowered you to live His way and given you new desires that agree with Him. You’ll be most fulfilled when you’re walking in a manner that is worthy of your calling (Ephesians 4:1).
