Is “once saved, always saved” really true?

Quick Answer: Is “once saved, always saved” really true?  “Once saved, always saved” is absolutely biblical. Our sins have been completely forgiven – past, present, and future (Hebrews 10:14). We have received the gift of eternal life, not temporary life. And God has given us many promises assuring us that He will never leave us. For these reasons, we believers are saved completely and forever (Hebrews 7:25).

Diving Deeper: There are three compelling reasons that a believer cannot lose their salvation.

First, the total forgiveness that we have in Christ – for past, present, and future sins – means we are forgiven forever, no matter what (Hebrews 10:14). The only reason a person might hypothetically lose salvation would be because of a particular sin or sins. But God has taken away our sins and remembers them no more (Hebrews 8:12). Because we are forgiven forever, we are saved forever.

Second, the gift of new life that we have received in Christ is known as “eternal life” for a reason (John 11:26). The word “eternal” literally means to have no beginning and no end. When we receive eternal life, we receive Christ’s life – a life that has no beginning or end. This is why Hebrews tells us that we will be saved as long as Jesus lives (Hebrews 7:25).

Third, God Himself has promised to never revoke our salvation, and even our heavenly inheritance is imperishable and reserved for us, protected by the power of God (1 Peter 1:4). For these reasons, a believer can be assured that once they’re saved, they’re safely in Christ Jesus forever.
